Online networking has become a critical aspect of how we interact through the use of the Internet. It has rooted itself as one of the most useful strategies for forming new connections and bonds, and can be applied to almost any aspect of daily life. With the steady increase in social networking, a growing number of people use social applications, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, on a day to day basis. Based on these facts, it's no surprise that businesses are increasingly attempting to leverage the power of social networking to boost marketing presence on the web. From sponsored Facebook ads to the use of Twitter, businesses have tested the waters with upcoming products. Social networking allows local municipalities to reach out to their residents which in turn increases the availability of local officials.

facebookYou may be asking yourself - what is social networking? Beyond that, why do people show such an interest in it? The answer is quite simple – to connect with others and build/maintain relationships. The desire to form these social connections is mainly driven through the common human desire to socialize with others and to feel a sense of belonging to a community. So why does this matter to local governments? It helps people get involved with their community.

A recent study conducted by Cone, LLC, found that in the polled 1,100 people and found that “93% of the respondents expect the companies they buy from to have some sort of presence in social networks, and 85% believe they should interact on a regular basis with their customers through these social networks”.

Latest News

As your software provider we have a major responsibility to support and maintain your current BAS products; in addition we must also spend time to investigate/evaluate new technology and service capabilities that will help to streamline the operation of your office, control overhead and provide residents with a higher level of service. As a result of these efforts we are pleased to announce the following new software applications and services that are now available for your consideration:
  1. Online Dog License Renewals - this capability has been implemented for BAS clients in Connecticut and Pennsylvania and will now be available beginning in January 2012 for our New York clients. The dog license database will be uploaded to an Internet file; residents can access current license information and if the license renewal period falls within the rabies certification period the resident will be able to pay the renewal fee via credit/debit card or electronic check; at the conclusion of the transaction, the resident will receive a receipt.

All dog license renewal transactions will be forwarded electronically to the BAS Licensing System for posting to the in-house dog database to avoid manual entry of the renewal transactions. The daily cash report will clearly reflect these transactions for easy balancing of all payments received.
  2. Online Backups/Disaster Recovery - utilizing the latest technology your data will be retrieved and stored in a secure, remote location (in redundant data centers) in case your local backup should fail; we have had quite a few clients lose their data due to equipment failure, fire, water damage or even theft.

  3. BAS - Your IT Partner - as your software vendor we gain a lot of knowledge about the computer equipment used in your office and consequently many clients have asked us for technical assistance; this has lead us to provide a variety of IT Services. Due to client demand we recently formed a new division of our company to focus on these services. The Towns of Huron, Greenfield and Stillwater rely on BAS to manage their in-house network and all related activities (we function as their IT Department). Our IT clients receive the same high level of service that BAS is accustomed to providing.

  4. Website Design & Hosting - this is the result of client requests for this service; take a look at the Town of Henrietta's website for an example of what can be done. We are now working with the Town of Evans and the NYS Association of Building Officials (NYSBOC) on their new websites.

  5. BAS is a Laserfiche Software Partner – many of our clients use Laserfiche; we became a "software partner" in order to have the ability to interface our software with Laserfiche. Currently we are planning to implement Laserfiche interfaces for our vital records and building department software.
NOTE: BAS is not a reseller of Laserfiche; we will work with your current vendor to implement the solutions that you need.

Please contact us know if you are interested in learning more about our new software and services initiatives or if you have other ideas or needs that you would like to discuss with us.
