Social Media

Online networking has become a critical aspect of how we interact through the use of the Internet. It has rooted itself as one of the most useful strategies for forming new connections and bonds, and can be applied to almost any aspect of daily life. With the steady increase in social networking, a growing number of people use social applications, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, on a day to day basis. Based on these facts, it's no surprise that businesses are increasingly attempting to leverage the power of social networking to boost marketing presence on the web. From sponsored Facebook ads to the use of Twitter, businesses have tested the waters with upcoming products. Social networking allows local municipalities to reach out to their residents which in turn increases the availability of local officials.
You may be asking yourself - what is social networking? Beyond that, why do people show such an interest in it? The answer is quite simple – to connect with others and build/maintain relationships. The desire to form these social connections is mainly driven through the common human desire to socialize with others and to feel a sense of belonging to a community. So why does this matter to local governments? It helps people get involved with their community.
A recent study conducted by Cone, LLC, found that in the polled 1,100 people and found that “93% of the respondents expect the companies they buy from to have some sort of presence in social networks, and 85% believe they should interact on a regular basis with their customers through these social networks”.
